Freightliner Buses

Freightliner Buses aren’t exactly their own company. Most companies build the majority of the bus and market it under their name. Instead, Freightliner bus chassis are built and supplied to another manufacture who will in turn build the rest of the coach. Essentially, there is no Freightliner bus. They specialize in manufacturing a part of a coach. It is an integral part to be sure. As an analogy, say that there was a company called XYZ inc that exclusively made cell phone screens. The sent their screens to say, Motorola, to be used for their phones. Obviously cell phones need screens, so that company would be very important. But it would still be a Motorola phone. With Freightliner buses, however, the chassis is so important that it is typically to refer to them in the name of the bus. In the cell phone example, it is more like Freightliner is a builder of the transceiver, which is the critical element that makes cell phones work.

A Freightliner Coach chassis is usually built with either a Cummins, Caterpillar Engine (Cat Diesel), or MBE900. They almost always use an Allison Automatic Transmission. Popular ones include the B210, B220, and B300 Allisons. They also use the 1000 PTS, 2200 PTS, and 3000PTS model transmissions. Since chassis are their specialization, they are known for producing quality. The frames are top notch and the suspension is usually air suspension or spring loaded suspension. In terms of buses, a Freightliner is known to be fairly maneuverable with around a 50 degree turning radius. Alternators range from 160 amps to 270 amps. Even though they are big on Diesel engines, they have experimented in the alternative fuel market with compressed natural gas (CNG) and propane.

This company actually has a little bit more of a lean towards eco friendly than most. In addition to their alternative fuel engines, they have also created some models that conserve energy in various ways. One way is more maneuverable models capable of taking more fuel efficient paths to their destination. Another way is that some models have an energy conservation mechanism that converts momentum into battery power. For example when the brakes are engaged, the momentum is stored as energy. This uses less energy overall.

Frieghtliner Bus

Notice there that Frieghtliner Bus is misspelled. The proper spelling is EI, Freightliner Bus. The I before E rule does not apply here! The English language is crazy sometimes.. Well most of the time. Actually, almost always. There are more exceptions to the rules than there are rules!
